Women’s liberation needs socialism

Why do Marxists insist that the women’s question is above all else a class question, and that only a proletarian revolution can lead to its real solution?

In this informative talk, Comrade Joti speaks at a meeting to mark International Working Women’s Day in Birmingham, on 8 March 2014.

What is women’s oppression? How, why and when did it come about? Are women still oppressed, in the west, in the 21st century? And if so, what is the answer?

How can real equality and liberation be won by working women?

With the aid of Engels’ defining work The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State, Joti attempts to give an answer to these questions, which are of great significance to the working class.
