The Communist Manifesto

A spectre is haunting Europe. The spectre of communism...

Written in 1848, Marx and Engels’ seminal work has long been celebrated as the first true work of scientific socialism. But is it still relevant today? What does it mean to the 99.9 percent of us struggling to survive in a world wracked by poverty, unemployment, crisis and war?

In this video, Comrade Ranjeet Brar gives an overview of the founding Marxist text – a work that shaped the 20th century and holds the key to understanding the unfolding struggles in the 21st. Our epoch is the epoch of great class struggles between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie; between the tiny clique of finance capitalists, and the vast masses of humanity.

Free your mind … and the rest will follow. The dogmas of capitalist economic ‘efficiency’ and ‘selfish human nature’; the corruption of imperialism with its attendant racism and chauvinism; the collapse of Khrushchevite revisionism and the fall of the USSR, have all weakened the struggle of the working masses and sapped our belief in our ability to seize our destiny and build something truly fine and worthwhile: a bright socialist future for humanity.

Returning to the classic works of Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, VI Lenin and Josef Stalin, as well as other great Marxist thinkers, allows us to see that the contradictions that gave rise to the mighty socialist movement of the 20th century are more than ever rending world capitalism at the seams.

Capitalism, above all else, creates its own gravediggers: the modern proletariat; the propertyless; the hungry; the dissatisfied; the dispossessed. Our destiny will be what we make it. Seize the time!

“The workers are gunpowder – knowledge and education are the spark!” (VI Lenin)
